GENERAL TIPS
START WITH ONE PERSON.
Its so much easier to visualize the whole picture once you know what one piece of it will look like! Try starting with mom or daughter since women's clothings tends to have more color and pattern, and work from there.
COORDINATING COLORS, NOT MATCHING.
The days of everyone wearing a white shirt and matching are long gone. Instead, pick a couple colors and choose clothes that will fit in this color scheme. For example, soft colors (blush, light blue, grey) or warm colors (orange, brown, burgundy). If you want colorful, brighter images, you should choose a more vivid color scheme!
LOOK AT YOUR HOME DECOR.
Since you're probably going to be hanging these photos in your house, you want them to go with the color schemes of your decor. So if you have a lot of neutral, light tones in your home, don't wear dark and moody colors for your photos. Are the photos going to go in a nursery or child's room? Maybe go for brighter, more vivid colors!
PLAN AHEAD.
Once you book your family session, start thinking of clothing options right away. If you figure out the outfits in advance then you'll know that everything fits, is clean, and exactly where it is the day of the photos! Also look at the weather for the day. Nothing is worse than being miserable in a perfect outfit. If its cold, make sure to incorporate hats, jackets and warmer shoes. If its in summer, dress in layers so you can easily take off it you get too hot.
