This year, Hanukkah begins on the evening of Sunday, December 2nd and goes through the evening of Monday, December 10th. Hanukkah is also referred to as the "festival of lights" to remind people of the miracle that occurred - a menorah with an amount of oil to stay lit for only one day lasted eight days while a temple was rebuilt after being destroyed in a revolt. The Jewish people saw this as a miracle and something to be celebrated.
For each night of Hanukkah, a candle on the menorah is lit and a different blessing is recited. There are also games and gifts involved in the Hanukkah traditions.
